Reconnecting classical music with one of its great historical reference works
The Historical Grove Project is creating a searchable gateway to the early public-domain editions of Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Its first major stage incorporates the five volumes of the Second Edition, published between 1904 and 1910, with access to individual historical entries and the original facsimiles.
The long-term objective is not simply to reproduce an old dictionary, but to make Grove a documentary bridge between the different areas of Classical Archive.

Historical books and documents in one research environment
The Digital Music Library brings together biographies, correspondence, memoirs, historical studies, treatises, booklets and musicological publications. Its purpose is not simply to store files, but to make sources progressively easier to discover through composers, performers, subjects and historical relationships.
Special attention is given to valuable public-domain material that would otherwise remain dispersed across different repositories.

From documentation to listening
The Audio project connects the documentary work of Classical Archive with a substantial listening collection available through Patreon. The searchable catalogue currently identifies 4,395 musical recordings relating to composers, works, conductors, singers, instrumentalists and historically significant performances.
Each catalogue entry links directly to its exact Patreon publication. The recording archive is configured primarily for paid members, and Patreon may provide a short preview before subscription.

Transforming years of publication into a searchable documentary resource
Thousands of publications about composers, works, performers, recordings, anecdotes, historical events and photographs form part of the wider Classical Archive community. This project is transforming that material from a chronological social-media stream into a structured and searchable archive.
The aim is to connect publications progressively with composers, performers, works, Grove references, books, recordings and musicological subjects.

Building interconnected biographies rather than isolated pages
Classical Archive is progressively developing a broad biographical environment devoted to the people who created and interpreted classical music. Profiles of composers, conductors, pianists, violinists, singers and other performers are conceived as entry points into a wider network of works, recordings, books, photographs, Grove entries and documentary references.
The objective is an increasingly interconnected history in which people, works, documents, images and recordings can be explored together.

A Living Archive
Classical Archive is not conceived as a finished collection. It is an ongoing project of preservation, research, organization and discovery, in which each new document, photograph, recording, biography or historical source can be connected with the wider history of classical music.
